Description of the Alcohol Detection with Vehicle Controlling project:

The main purpose of the Alcohol Detection with Vehicle Controlling project is “Drunk driving detection”. Nowadays, many accidents are happening because of the alcohol consumption of the driver or the person who is driving the vehicle. Thus Drunk driving is a major reason for accidents in almost all countries all over the world. The alcohol Detector in Car project is designed for the safety of the people seating inside the car. The alcohol Detection with Vehicle Controlling project helps to control the vehicle in case the driver has consumed alcohol. An alcohol breath analyzer project should be fitted/ installed inside the vehicle.

A detailed description of the project:

This project is one of the important Sensor based project ideas. The main unit of this project is an “Alcohol sensor”. If the person inside the car has consumed alcohol then it is alcohol detection is done by the sensor. The sensor gives this signal to a comparator IC. The output of the comparator is connected to the microcontroller.

The microcontroller is the heart of this project. It is the CPU of the complete circuit. The microcontroller gives a high pulse to the buzzer circuit and the buzzer is turned on. At the same time, a relay is turned off. Due to this, the ignition of the car is deactivated. Alcohol Detection System with Buzzer Indication project is extended by adding an ignition key at the input and a DC motor at the output. The input Ignition key is given to the microcontroller. It is used to find out that the car is started. Whenever a key is inserted into the ignition lock at that time the alcohol detection process is started.

Applications and Advantages of Alcohol Detection with Vehicle Controlling:

Applications of Alcohol Detector in Car:

  1. “Alcohol Detector project” can be used in various vehicles for detecting whether the driver has consumed alcohol or not.
  2. Breathing analyzer projects can also be used in various companies or organizations to detect the alcohol consumption of employees. An alcohol detection system in an automobile is a must feature that every cab or bus should have.

Advantages of the Alcohol Detector project:

  1. “Alcohol Detection System in Cars” provides an automatic safety system for cars and other vehicles as well.

Future Development of the project:

  1. We can implement GSM technology with an alcohol detector. So Alcohol detection & vehicle controlling through text SMS will inform the relatives or owners of the vehicle about the alcohol consumption.
  2. We can implement GPS technology so that once alcohol detection is done, the system will find out the location of the vehicle. This project is called GPS tracker and alcohol detector with engine locking system using GSM

Questions and answers about this project:

Question: Can we use GSM technology in this project?

Answer : Yes, we can implement GSM technology. If microcontroller detects presence of alcohol then it will send SMS to the owner of the Car or to the family members of the person driving the car.

Question: What are the drawbacks of this project?

Answer : If any person other than the driver has consumed alcohol and if system detects it then also it will not allow the car to start (even if the driver is not drunk)

Question: What is the functionality of the comparator in the alcohol detection project

Answer : Comparator has a potentiometer which gives a constant voltage at inverting terminal of comparator. Then at non-inverting terminal alcohol sensor output is given. It gives low pulse when alcohol level increases.

Question: Can you add a DC motor instead of a Relay?

Answer : Yes, we can provide DC motor. Motor will be turned off if the alcohol is detected

Question: What is the use of an LCD display in this project?

Answer : As this “Alcohol Detection System in Cars” is an educational project, we have to use LCD display to show various messages. This helps the students to view the current state, like Alcohol crossed harmful level. Motor started/ motor stopped. LCD also helps to find out the fault in the project as we can put various testing/break points in the program. In actual use we can remove LCD and replace it with various LEDs of different color to indicate status.

Question: In the project on alcohol detection with vehicle controlling (project code:1250) can we connect the DC motor for working demonstration? How do we want to connect? I also want step by step process for making this project.

Answer : We have already provided a DC motor with the “Drunk driver detection” project. Project report includes step by step process of how to make the project.

Question: Where the alcohol sensor is to be placed? Within the car or in the traffic control area? And what is the cost of the alcohol sensor?

Answer : The alcohol sensor will be placed inside the car. It should be placed near the steering wheel so that it can sense the alcohol consumption of driver. Cost of alcohol sensor varies from Rs.300 to 800 depending upon the manufacturer.

Question: Is the alcohol sensing with engine locking also available using an embedded system?

Answer : We have provided a DC motor to show demonstration of engine. DC motor starts when ignition key is inserted in lock. And DC motor stops when alcohol is sensed.
