Description of the project

Some of you may wonder why a GPS ambulance tracker is so important. But actually, a 10-second delay may decide the life or death of a person. We are familiar with the concept of an emergency ambulance, an ambulance that is used to move patients rapidly to critical care in an emergency room under required medical conditions. They can also be used for routine transport of non-urgent cases, such as transfers between hospitals and nursing homes and accidents.

In most nations, ambulances are given priority on the road, in recognition of the fact that time is important when moving a critically ill or seriously injured patient. So Ambulances are critical tools in helping EMTs and other trained first responders not only quickly arrive at an emergency but also provide potentially life-saving measures.

So for safety and other advantages, GPS Ambulance Tracking System is currently been applied to ambulances. It is a specialized GPS following arrangement went for the productive administration of the Ambulance armada. This solution focus to make the ambulance available to a poor patient in the shortest possible time. It is achieved by redirecting the ambulance from a nearby location and in a shorter way, than the conventional way of sending the ambulance all the way from the hospital to a critical spot.

Detailed Description of GPS Ambulance Tracker:

GPS tracker for ambulance consists of an 8051 Microcontroller (89s51), GPS module, GSM module, LCD display, power supply circuit, MAX232 IC, and a keypad.

  • GPS Modem: GPS modem connects with the required satellites. Then it calculates the coordinates of the location. Then Microcontroller receives data from the GPS modem.
  • Microcontroller: Microcontroller communicates with a Liquid crystal display. It also sends data to the GSM module. 8051 communicates with input devices and output devices.
  • LCD Display: Longitude and latitude are shown on the LCD display.
  • GSM Modem: SMS is sent to the user with the help of a GSM modem. Users can send SMS all over the world via the GSM network.
  • MAX232: MAX232 is required since the communication level of 8051 and the GSM modem is different.
  • Keypad: The user can send an emergency message using the keypad.

A detailed description of the project

Ambulance tracking system using GPS and GSM

The reason why hospitals in many countries are now turning to GPS tracking devices is to provide a vehicle management solution for ambulance fleets unless there is a huge potential to result in unfortunate deaths. So GPS-based Emergency Medical Services are so important and significant.

The Ambulance will be outfitted with GPS enabled Tracker devices that will gather the location coordinates from the GPS satellites and send them in real-time to the focal server through GPRS-enabled SIM. So, the concerned or authorized people can also communicate with the ambulance driver through PDA and guide him with the driving directions to the nearest hospital.

This GPS device is compact and can be easily connected to the ambulance, which allows for the live GPS system to pull power directly from the ambulance battery. Then it transmits driving activity in real-time including speed drives, routes traveled, and more.

This entire vehicle monitoring data is sent to an off-site server instantly where it can be viewed by hospital management from their mobile phones or hospital computers. And it can also be programmed to alert hospital management if for some reason an ambulance leaves a safe zone or is driving at excessive rates of speed when there is no emergency. What is even more helpful for hospital staff is that through the online tracking platform they can oversee an entire ambulance fleet all at the meantime, and the tracking data can also be stored.

GPS Tracker for Ambulance

Applications of GPS Ambulance Tracker:

There are many Applications of GPS tracker for ambulance, few of them are listed below:

  1. The tracking of ambulance carrying patients.
  2. To find out the position of the ambulance carrying the injured employee to the hospital.
  3. In such situations, we can track the location of vehicle containing these rare species animals, If these animals have some disease or they have wounds due to some accident.

Advantages of GSM and GPS based Ambulance Tracker:

There are a number of advantageous reasons for hospitals to invest in ambulance tracking using GPS:

  1. GPS auto tracking technology can literally help a hospital reduce costs. For example, tracking units such as the Sync can provide detailed information about path driven, traffic situation, short paths.it is important that ambulance drivers do not consume fuel carelessly. At the same time it is also important for them to practice safe driving practices during non-emergency situations in order to maintain long-term vehicle health. So the GPS ambulance tracking system solves these problems.
  2. Live tracking and status information of all available ambulances on a map which helps for quick redirection of the ambulance to a critical spot.
  3. Remote Medical Assistance from doctors / medical staff on emergencies.
  4. Helps hospital authorities to predict the arrival time of emergency cases and to do prior preparations.
  5. Better management and accountability of ambulance operations

Future Development:

  1. We can give provision for live data transfer between the hospital and the medical health parameters monitoring equipment installed in the ambulance
  2. We can provide bio-metric sensors for drivers.

User will receive SMS from the project after a pre-decided interval of time. User has to enter the contents of this SMS onto Google map. Now a days various websites and apps on smart phone offer online Google map. By entering the co-ordinates from the SMS, user can find out the exact location on Google map.

Why ambulance tracking on Google Maps? The answer is very simple: You can get the exact location on the map, you can even get routes to the nearest hospital or other places.

You will the following documents through email with this project:

  1. Project Report in pdf format and in word format ( .doc or .docx )
  2. Circuit diagram
  3. PCB layout
  4. Microcontroller Program in assembly language
  5. Hex file of the Microcontroller code
  6. Datasheets of all the components / ICs used in the project
  7. Power point presentation / PPT file

Questions and answers about this project:

Question: Why is GSM based transmission very important for ambulances?

Answer: The inability to bring a patient on time to the hospital due to traffic and other reasons can be a reason for the unfortunate death of a person. So saving a life is so important.
