The device controlled by a switch or remote is the old concept now. The next-generation technology is here. The “Voice Operated Home Appliance Control System” project utilizes human voice command to control electrical devices. The user has to give voice commands to an Android application. This application recognizes the voice commands and sends them to the Voice operated device controlling project. A receiver and decoder decode these commands and give them to the 8051 microcontroller over a serial port. Then the microcontroller takes a decision on which devices to control depending upon input received from the Android application.

Device control with voice is one of the main areas of future research. Imagine a world where users can do each and every task by just talking. We have already seen a few automobile industries have implemented this in cars. Voice Controlled Home Appliances have many applications including device controlling inside the home as well as in industry. So basically we are going to Control home appliances using voice-based commands.

Talking about voice-operated device controlling, we can say that roughly there are two types of controlling operations. In the first one, the user has to speak in a microphone connected to the electronic circuit. And in another type user can speak on an Android mobile or any other device and then this device sends commands to the project through a wireless communication technique. In this project, we have used a second type of operation, which means voice control through an Android mobile application. One of the primary purposes of this technique is to reduce human efforts. Users don’t have to get up from their places to control the device. This is an advanced Voice Operated Home Appliance Control System that needs an Android smartphone or tablet. Voice recognition technology is used inside the Android app. We can control devices by using our voices. This project really proves useful for physically disabled people or senior citizens or elderly people at hour homes or even those people who are injured and can not walk or move.

Description in detail:

Various important blocks of the system are:

  • Bluetooth receiver and decoder: The function of this element is to decode the signal received from the Voice application on Android mobile. It gives output to the microcontroller
  • Microcontroller: We have used an 89s51 microcontroller which does the main function. It interacts with the decoder as well as with Relay. We can say it is the CPU, a central processing unit of this project.
  • LCD Display: Whenever there is any change in device status then LCD displays the respective message.
  • Relay: Relays are used so that we can control AC as well as DC devices. Right now we provide a 12-volt DC Fan and a 12-volt DC bulb. These are connected to 2 relays. The remaining 3 relays are open.
  • Buzzer: Buzzer is one of the output devices.

Applications and Advantages:

There are many Applications of Electrical Appliances Control By Human Voice, few of them are listed below:

  1. This project has its main application in the home.
  2. It can also be used in Industries.
  3. An important application is for physically handicapped people and elderly people.

  1. Easy to install and easy to use.

Future Development:

  1. We can control more devices and give feedback to the Android app about the status of the device.
